My Heart Runneth Over Wednesdays

my heart runneth over with........pride and a tinge of sadness.

May 23, 2012
the last day that I had a kindergartner and a 1st grader

It was a very long and celebratory last day of school.
So needless to say by the time I got home and presented H with her "super star, I completed kindergarten" certificate....she wasn't thrilled

Once I shared her cute new ruffle skirt and tank top  (a 'Way To Go! You ROCKED Kindergarten' token), her affect improved BUT I had put the camera down to tend to EIV.  Imagine her smiley, toothless smile here  :)

E, graduated to the 2nd grade.  She was just about as proud of herself as we were of her!!

These milestones in my girls lives sure bring a mixture of emotions to this momma.
I couldn't be more proud of their accomplishments.  H grew so much this past year.  Everything got easier for her as the year progressed.....she's truly awesome.  Quiet and sweet.  Smart and eager.
E continues to amaze me.  she's got this fabulous photographic memory and never, I mean NEVER, misses anything.  She takes the world in; she just absorbs it all.  Processes it and learns some more.  She's assertive and talented.  Intelligent and fun.

The other side of the coin brings me such sadness.  My baby girls are not babies.  time is going WAY TOO FAST!!!  I dislike every minute of it.  I want them to be little.  I want them to cuddle with me.  I want them to always fit on my lap.  I want them to pronounce words in their cute little-I'm 5 kind of way.  I want missing teeth and innocent joy in my house forever.

I'll keep hoping and dreaming......while they continue to grow and develop into beautiful young women.

Slacker

I've been a major slacker in regards to my blog this past week.
Since last Wednesday, we have a kindergarten graduate, and a 1st grade graduate and a 17 month old with 13 teeth.
Our garden (in pots) is flourishing! yay!
Our soccer season has ended (Thanks Coach G.!!!!)
We've had fun with bubbles.
We've had an 8:30 pm run to the doctor, a case of hand, foot and mouth (really...it's 2012...we can't come up with a better name than that!) and a last minute (relaxing) change of holiday weekend plans.
We packed a car to its capacity and then unpacked it about 31 hours later.
Our new turquoise table (thanks honey!!) has found its home.
We went swimming and tried to sing flag songs.
We learned about what Memorial Day is REALLY about.
We've hit sonic happy hours 3 times in four days! super yay!!
And so many other 'normal' daily activities....
I PROMISE I will blog about these....soon....really soon or my camera might burst.

But to tide you all over for today.......
For those of you who are parents, you will appreciate this.
Everyone knows that there is NO SACRED place for a mom, not even the bathroom.
I've 'done my duty' numerous times with a baby on my lap, sitting on my feet or pulling on my arms.
EIV's new thing is to come into the bathroom and try (with all his might) to pull up my pants and force me to be 'done'.... and refusing to take 'no' for an answer.  It is hilarious!!
Fortunately for all of you....Ed is the only one who might actually witness it.
You're welcome for not including a video :)
Happy Tuesday!

Who's got a green thumb?

A couple of weeks ago, E and I decided that we were going to plant a garden.
Not your ordinary garden you see......
rather, one made out of every random pot we could find

We planted flowers, green onions, hot peppers, red peppers, and.tomatoes.

Then E started by digging the old dirt out of the pots.
She worked really, really hard...

Then she filled them up.  She filled them all.  She's a really hard worker....I love that about her.

I told her she could pick her favorite pot to plant the flowers in....isn't it pretty?

Here they are, all ready to grow :)
I'll keep you posted on the crop!

My Heart Runneth Over Wednesdays!

my heart runneth over with....pride.

My little sister graduated last weekend with her Masters in Architecture from the University of Nebraska.

H didn't have school that day, so she got to go with me to commencement.
She made a sign for her aunt.
It was really cute

My dad's prepping for our home town's Quasquicentennial.  Nice beard, right??

And finally.....a failed attempt at a high five!
too funny!

Ok....let's try that again......

That's more like it.

And I'm happy to say that she was offered a job on Monday morning!
Woo Hoo!
Way to go Abby!

Reader's Theatre

H's kindergarten class put on a show last week.
They narrated 'Click, Clack, Moo'.
She dressed up for the show:

And helped her classmates design the background scene:

iphone pics.....not the greatest......

And they started with a song to 'warm up' their voices.

I'm pretty convinced that 'green' is a heck of a lot easier to spell then 'purple'.
It was super cute.

Barking and other ailments.....

Ed and I were harshly awoken last night to barking.
Unfortunately it wasn't barking from our dog......rather from our son.

There was a moment of....'no way can that sound be coming from him??!?!"
Oh yes, much to our dismay, our little booger was diagnosed with croup this morning.
A steroid shot and breathing treatment later, he's doing much better.
Hoping that tonight goes a little better.....for all of our sakes.

The croup was just another ailment to add to our 2012 list.
What's so weird is that CHD babies are known to have compromised immune systems....so we expected all of these ailments (and did lots and lots of things to prevent them) in 2011.....but oh no....this strong, resilient young man didn't get sick at all....not one time prior to his OHS. (THANK THE LORD!)

Then welcome 2012.
Since the beginning of the year, he's got on the books:
-3 ear infections
-roseola (a viral rash)
-another random viral rash 2 weeks later
-an allergic reaction that gave him boils on his bottom
-and now, croup
-And something else I'm sure I've forgotten
And it is only April......

It's hard to believe

It's hard to believe that a mere 9 months ago, we had a beautiful baby boy that:

-wasn't even on the growth charts
-breathed rapidly and laboured
-didn't have the energy to play for more than 5 minutes and then needed a rest and/or nap
-required over 22 feedings a day which consisted of breast milk, formula and rice cereal
-caused his mom and dad lots and lots of anxiety and sleepless nights
-had the scrawniest legs I've ever seen
-seemed to have the doctors baffled (but of course not his mama!)
-despite all of that, always, and I mean ALWAYS, was smiling

Check out those scrawny legs

It's hard to believe that a mere 7 months ago, to the day, that same beautiful baby boy, looked like this:

It's hard to believe that:

-a 9 month old is strong enough to undergo an open heart surgery
-a surgeon can patch holes inside a heart about the size of a walnut
-a baby can be released from the hospital only 3 days after OHS
-a baby can be sent home only on Ibuprofen for the pain

It's hard to believe that ONLY 7 months later, that our strong, resilient, amazing son:

Eats donuts and spaghetti and anything else thrown his way:

Has enough energy for bikes rides with his sisters, swinging and goes so fast he runs right out of his shoes:

He's also:
-On the charts
-has no residual flow through his VSD
-has absolutely NO restrictions
-and is PERFECT!! Perfect in every way!

It may be hard to believe what can happen in 7 months.
But I do believe in God and I do believe in miracles, because I see one every day!
